Barcelona take United's crown

FC Barcelona were crowned European champions for a third time – and the second in four seasons – as a vibrant display of pass and move, capped by goals in either half from Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi, defeated Manchester United FC in Rome.Holders toppledUnited, bidding to become the first team to successfully defend the trophy in the UEFA Champions League era, began an open contest at breakneck speed as Cristiano Ronaldo threatened three times. After ten minutes, however, Eto'o put the Spanish champions ahead and they never looked back. Xavi Hernández struck a post early in the second period and, though the clinching second goal did not arrive until the 70th minute – via, unusually, the head of Messi – Josep Guardiola's side were worthy winners. Is Baichung Bhutia set to return to East Bengal Club after the fall out at city rivals Mohun Bagan? Or does he have other options...
Baichung Bhutia's media interaction at the Howrah Maidan on Monday afternoon did create quite a stir. Especially the statement of never willing to play for Mohun Bagan again and that he will ask for his release from the remaining one year of his contract. Baichung was angry and also upset at the way Mohun Bagan had gone about questioning his commitment towards the Green-and-Maroon. This resulted in the sharp reaction. And with the Indian skipper suddenly being on the market has numerous clubs looking at their options.

He added:"It's not just the Manchester United players. When you look at the players the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal and other teams have got, they all have fantastic players throughout their squads now.
"The quality is getting better and better each year so to win this award is a great achievement for myself.
"It's made even more special for me because I am following in the footsteps of Liverpool players like John Barnes, Steve Nicol and Kenny Dalglish who were heroes of mine.
